Obsessed: Building Enormous Snowmen With the Boss of Frost

[Narrator] Marc Asperas spent years developing

the ultimate snowman using hollow spears that hold

snow on their surface and stay light enough to lift,

no matter how big they get.

To get the snow to stick, he creates a textured surface

using LEGOs.

When snowflakes are pressed against a hard surface,

their pointed tips break creating a small amount of heat

and melting the flakes slightly so they bond

to the LEGOs when they refreeze.

This is called centering.

With Asperas patented invention, you don't have

to wait for a big snowstorm to make a big snowman.

In this case, Asperas didn't even wait for winter.

His local ice hockey arena dumps huge piles

of rink ice shavings which makes Frosty sculpting possible

on an 80 degree day in July.

Boulders this size would be impossible to lift

if they were solid snow.

But, they're hollow and light.

Asperas didn't stop there.

He created armatures that can support snowy limbs

like arms, or in this case, the distinctive snout

on his Red Baron Snoopy.
