Sam Altman and Dario Amodei Appear to Refuse to Hold Hands at India AI Summit
OpenAI and Anthropic CEOs Sam Altman and Dario Amodei appeared to decline to hold hands during a group photo at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi on Thursday, February 19.
While other tech leaders including Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang linked arms alongside Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, Altman and Amodei instead awkwardly raised their fists in the air.
Amodei co-founded Anthropic in 2021 after leaving OpenAI, where he had been vice president of research. Earlier this month Anthropic aired Super Bowl TV spots appearing to take aim at OpenAI’s plan to incorporate adverts into responses on ChatGPT. Responding on X, formerly Twitter, Altman said the Anthropic ads were “funny,” but also “clearly dishonest.”
