Election Officials Are Bracing For ICE To Show Up At The Midterms

Election officials are bracing for ICE
to show up at the midterms.
WIRED has spoken to more than a dozen election officials,
including secretaries of state and election directors in red
and blue states about the possibility
of ICE agents deploying to polling locations in November.
While some officials said they're not worried,
the majority had major concerns,
and at least one has actively planned
for a scenario in which he's arrested.
One election director from a Western state speaking on
condition of anonymity said
that in more than two decades working
as an election official, this was the first time
that they had had to prepare for the potential
of federal interference.
The officials who expressed concerns said they're scrambling
to reassure voters replace federal election resources
eliminated by President Donald Trump
and to try to plan for scenarios they have never had
to contemplate before.
