First used in 1897, stop motion has evolved beyond just character sculptures. Walls of art, colored pencils, and sculptures are all fair game for animation. All you need is a little patience, attention to detail and a camera. Check out these videos to see how video artists today are taking this hundred-year-old technique to a whole new level. __Above:__ It's Just One of Those Days ---------------------------- Filmed in 2007, “Sorry I’m Late” is a stop motion short that uses stills from a camera on the ceiling pointed at the floor. Filmmaker Tomas Mankovsky gives a creative and unique look at depth perception by using small objects close to the camera next to subjects far in the background.

Appalachian Trail in 5 Minutes ------------------------------- The Green Tunnel shows a six-month journey along the 2,200-mile-long Appalachian Trail. The film condenses the trail into five minutes of stop motion. Filmmaker and mountain man Kevin Gallagher shot 24 successive steps down the trail each day. At the end of the journey he had over 4,000 photos, which were then strung together. Here’s what an accelerated hike along the Appalachian mountain range looks like.
