__Data’s Buckle Gripper__ Our first glimpse of Data is, fittingly, during a gadget trial. He’s testing out a device that launches a small suction-cupped harpoon from his 007-inscribed belt buckle. It's supposed to mechanically reel in whatever it attaches to, but the test doesn’t go so well.

__General Electric 3-5258a__ The first of two prominently featured boomboxes in the film, this GE 3-5258a was cousin to the much more popular [Blockbuster](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8PqAJqAubY ). In the opening chase montage, Kerri Green (Andy) uses one during cheerleading practice.

__Cliff Hanger Arcade Game__ Blink and you’ll miss it, but the arcade game you see Chunk playing in the Pizza parlor at the beginning of the film is Stern Electronic’s [*Cliff Hanger*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc5MKWJ7j6Y). Released in 1983, it was a laserdisc game that used repurposed footage from some of the [Lupin III films](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupin_III ), like [*The Castle of Cagliostro*](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Castle_of_Cagliostro ) and [*The Mystery of Mamo*](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mystery_of_Mamo ).

__Rube Golderg Gate Opener__ Look closely at the Walsh’s intricate gate-opening contraption and you’ll see the name "Rube G" painted on the side of the chicken cage component. It’s a nice little Rube Goldberg wink. Just don’t dwell on the fact that if your gate-opening machine requires a chicken to lay an egg, you can really only have one guest per day.

__Mikey's bedroom__ Ah, '80s kid bedrooms. They’re the best kind of nostalgia delivery devices. Mikey has some pretty great stuff in his, including Superman sheets, coconut pirate heads, [Tomy Zoids Giant ZRK](http://www.giantzrk.com/zoids/RBOZ-001_Giant_Zrk/ ), some Gremlins figurines, and um, a WWII-era MSA All Service Model S gas mask.

__General Electric 3-5240-D__ Data uses the other GE boombox in the film to supply the all-important "James Bond Theme" as he ziplines from his house to the Walsh’s.

__Wings of Flight__ The best way to enter the home of any friend, really.

__Sloth Animatronics__ Okay, it's not a featured gadget, but the animatronics that helped transform onetime Oakland Raider John Matuszak into Sloth were still pretty awesome. The droopy lower eye was mechanically operated off-screen and would be synchronized with his real eye blinks. Sloth’s ears were also remotely controlled.

__Bully Blinders__ More useful for blinding bullies than sustained lighting, these pair of 8mm movie projector lamps that pop out of Data’s jacket only last 10 seconds.

__Pinchers of Peril__ One-Eyed-Willy’s booby traps were no match for Data’s gadgets. After falling through a trap door, Data uses his pinchers of peril to grab onto a protruding rock and narrowly avert impalement.

__Slick Shoes__ In addition to exclusively drinking Pepsi, all the Goonies wear Nikes. None were as slick as Data’s kicks, though. His tricked out pair of Sky Force Hi had some handy oil-releasing properties.

__Punch Out__ By the time he uses his Punch Out gadget, you really start to wonder how Data was able to carry around (and conceal) all his gear. This spring-loaded boxing glove makes short work of Jake Fratelli.

__Pinchers of Peril, part 2__ Joey Pants (Francis Fratelli) has an unpleasant encounter with Data’s pinchers. Rewatching *The Goonies* later in life, I realized my love of Data’s gadgets also had something to do with the slapstick comedy that always ensued.
