Gallery: Who Should Direct the Next Star Wars Movie, According to You

When Disney reveals the director of *Star Wars: Episode VII*, it will probably be the biggest Hollywood news of the year – after, of course, Disney announcing it had acquired Lucasfilm for $4 billion. In the meantime, all fanboys and fangirls can do is speculate. We already posted our 13 picks for who could direct the new *Star Wars* flick(s). Since then, one of those choices – Brad Bird – has taken to Twitter to say [he's not into the job](https://twitter.com/BradBirdA113/status/269982055272693760). ("That said," he added, "Michael Arndt is a fantastic writer and Kathy Kennedy is a brilliant producer. I will be the [first in line to see the new *Star Wars*](https://twitter.com/BradBirdA113/status/269991381576056833).") Wired readers — with whom, naturally, the Force is strong — have given us tons more suggestions about who else should helm the franchise. Here are some of your best suggestions. __Above:__ Director: [Ridley Scott](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000631/) ------------------------------------------------------------- The *Blade Runner* and *Prometheus* director definitely possesses the sci-fi and space-odyssey chops to pull off a *Star Wars* flick. He just didn’t make the initial list because he didn't seem like he'd be chomping at the bit for the job. But when a reader like Ian Shankey hops in the comments to say "[RIDLEY FUCKING SCOTT!!!!](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-711912251)" there's clearly been an oversight. *Photo: Kerry Brown/20th Century Fox*
02alfonso-cuaron
Director: [Alfonso Cuarón](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0190859/) --------------------------------------------------------------- Alfonso Cuarón's *Children of Men* was "[a stunning, completely realized world](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-711876733) – something that *Empire Strikes Back* achieved more than any other show in the series," wrote reader NOLA Contendere. "He earned young-audience stripes on a [successful *Harry Potter*](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304141/), which should put the silverbacks in the Mouse House at ease." Hard to argue with that. *Photo courtesy Universal Pictures*
Merrick Morton03david-fincher
Director: [David Fincher](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000399/) -------------------------------------------------------------- Reader Huvatator [brought up a good point about David Fincher](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-712486627), who helmed *The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo* remake and *The Social Network*, calling him "a highly intelligent, visionary director who happens to favor dark, gritty fare, but isn't limited to it. If he didn't demand so much autonomy, I'm sure he'd be on Disney's list." *Photo courtesy Sony Pictures*
04david-lynch
Director: [David Lynch](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000186/) ------------------------------------------------------------ Adding *Eraserhead* director David Lynch to the *Star Wars* list is probably an even longer shot than Kevin Smith, but it's a fun pairing to ponder. "He would be amazing," wrote reader rainestorm. "[The film would be incomprehensible crap](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-712329198), but it would be amazing." *Photo courtesy Universal Pictures*
Jaap Buitendijk05david-yates
Director: [David Yates](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0946734/) ------------------------------------------------------------ The man responsible for the last four *Harry Potter* movies could make a decent *Star Wars* movie. Thanks to Wired reader Bruination for [adding David Yates to the list](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-711792836). *Photo courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures*
06edgar-wright
Director: [Edgar Wright](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0942367/) ------------------------------------------------------------- Edgar Wright would likely introduce a bit of fun to *Star Wars*. "Edgar Wright (*Shaun of the Dead*, *Scott Pilgrim vs. the World*) [would be dynamite](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-713116000)," wrote Glen Crawforth. "*Ant-Man* may have him too busy though." *Photo courtesy Double Negative*
07gore-verbinski
Director: [Gore Verbinski](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0893659/) --------------------------------------------------------------- Leaving Gore Verbinski off the *Star Wars* list was an obvious oversight, especially since the *Pirates of the Caribbean* director has ties to Disney. And, as reader David Herman notes, "[He's comfortable with big, sprawling franchises](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-712280449) and action scenes, both live-action and animation, for kids and adults." *Photo courtesy Disney*
08james-cameron
Director: [James Cameron](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000116/) -------------------------------------------------------------- In terms of scope, little has come close to the epicness of James Cameron's *Avatar*. That would make him a good candidate for something as massive as a new chapter of *Star Wars*, although he's got his hands more than full with *Avatar* sequels. "Though I doubt he would ever touch it with a 1,000-foot pole, I think [James Cameron could do a decent job](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-711916470)," said shawnm750. *Photo courtesy 20th Century Fox*
Alan Markfield09rian-johnson
Director: [Rian Johnson](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0426059/) ------------------------------------------------------------- *Looper* director Rian Johnson's name came up a couple times in the comments, and we couldn't agree more. But, [along with Wired senior editor Adam Rogers](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/10/observation-deck-looper/), we're actually holding out hope that Johnson will be tapped to direct *Justice League*. *Photo: Alan Markfield/Sony Pictures*

Directors: [The Wachowskis](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000116/) ---------------------------------------------------------------- "What about the Wachowskis? [That would ROCK](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2012/11/new-star-wars-director/#comment-713149434)," wrote reader Brock Parks. You know what? That actually might rock, considering the lush visuals and multiple settings of *Cloud Atlas*. *Photo courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures*
