Gallery: Will I Am Number Four Score With Sci-Fi Numerologists?

Does alien-thriller–teen-soap I Am Number Four have the goods where it really counts? The movie, a psychodrama about teen aliens hiding on Earth from bloodthirsty interstellar enemies, presents the latest in a long line of sci-fi and spy-fi characters known more by a number than a name. Adapted from the young-adult sci-fi novel written by Pittacus Lore (a fantastic pseudonym for authors James Frey and Jobie Hughes), [I Am Number Four](http://findnumberfour.com/) should play well with [Twilight](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2009/11/twilight-lessons-girls-learn) and [Harry Potter](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2010/11/review-deathly-hallows) geeks horny for hot outsiders. But how will it do in the sci-fi numbers game? Find out how the movie's derivative heartthrob fares against the numerologically inclined characters in this gallery. Then, school us with your own pop-cult math in the comments section below. __Above:__ Four-Shadowing -------------- Alex Pettyfer plays John, aka Number Four, in director D.J. Caruso's *I Am Number Four*, which opens Friday.

Number Six From The Prisoner ---------------------------- __Number crunch:__ [Patrick McGoohan](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2009/01/rip-patrick-mcg) presaged all sci-fi and spy-fi Number Sixes to come in the '60s, using an indispensably surreal television show as mind fertilizer. __Statistical analysis:__ Number Four has zero chance of replacing [The Prisoner](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2009/11/the-prisoner-an-all-star-appreciation)'s Number Six in spaceship Earth's history logs.

Number Six From Battlestar Galactica 2.0 ---------------------------------------- __Number crunch:__ As Battlestar Galactica's Cylon [Number Six](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_Six_%28Battlestar_Galactica%29), Tricia Helfer was the most scorching of skinjobs populating Syfy's [supermodels-in-space](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_Galactica_%282004_TV_series%29) reboot of the '70s [Star Wars simulacrum](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_Galactica_%281978_TV_series%29). __Statistical analysis:__ Battlestar Galactica's Number Six is getting way too much competition from The Prisoner's Number Six to worry about some alien kid labeled Number Four.

[Seven of Nine](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_of_nine) From Star Trek: Voyager ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __Number crunch:__ Like Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer, Jeri Ryan (at right) brought supermodel cyborg hotness to deep, cold space, forcing fanboy mind-crotch merges into an otherwise meditative Star Trek iteration. __Statistical analysis:__ Star Trek's street cred is light-years ahead of [I Am Number Four](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Number_Four).
05sean-connery-james-bond
007, aka Bond, James Bond ------------------------- __Number crunch:__ Novelist Ian Fleming's [James Bond](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/007) battles for supremacy with Patrick McGoohan's *Danger Man* gadget spook [John Drake](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Drake_%28Danger_Man%29) to become spy-fi's most recognizably numbered secret agent. __Statistical analysis:__ Does not compute.
06hal-9000
Hal 9000 From 2001: A Space Odyssey ----------------------------------- __Number crunch:__ Morally confused supercomputer [Hal 9000](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/thisdayintech/2011/01/0112hal-born-space-odyssey/) from Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke's [cerebral sci-fi](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/underwire/2010/07/gallery-cerebral-sci-fi-films) movie 2001: A Space Odyssey changed technoculture as we know it. __Statistical analysis:__ Code error.

THX-1138 -------- __Number crunch:__ Robert Duvall played defiant narco-slave [THX-1138](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THX_1138) in George Lucas' indie sci-fi dystopia of the same name. __Statistical analysis:__ Better known by his letters, THX-1138 doesn't need them to edge out Number Four.
08the-4400
The 4400 -------- __Number crunch:__ It's not often that a singularly numbered sci-fi entity features such a sizable ensemble. But this television series about 4,400 alien abductees thrown through time lasted a while before ending in a never-resolved cliff-hanger. __Statistical analysis:__ Number Four's single film (so far) versus [The 4400](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_4400)'s four seasons equals zero wins for the newcomer so far.
09cherry-2000
Cherry 2000 ----------- __Number crunch:__ [Cherry 2000](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_2000), Pamela Gidley's '80s sex-bot from the film of the same name, was a technofetish lemon. __Statistical analysis:__ Number Four finally squeaks one out.
