These are the top 10 photos chosen by our readers, but because we had so many [great submissions](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/rawfile/2010/10/wired-photo-contest-arctic/) we've also compiled a [Wired.com Editors' Choice Arctic Photo Gallery](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/rawfile/2010/10/editors-arctic-photos/). Enjoy! \- - - __Above:__ Polar-Bear–Staring Contest -------------------------- Submitted by Tristan Bayer __Photographer's comment:__ Eye to eye with the lord of the Arctic, wildlife filmmaker Tristan Bayer is ready for his closeup while making the wildlife adventure documentary Earthling. This huge male polar bear was one of the biggest they've seen, standing on its tiptoes at more than 10 feet. (The bottom of the window on this Arctic monster truck, or Tundra Buggy, is 9 feet.) Luckily they say that white bears can't jump! The bear huffed and puffed and finally won the staring contest by defeating Tristan with his foul bear breath.

Sundog ------ Submitted by Quinn __Photographer's comment:__ "A closeup of a Sundog, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. It was about minus 50 Fahrenheit on this day. There is a plethora of optical phenomena when it gets so cold. Light pillars, sundogs, ice halos, tangent arcs and [fata morgana](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fata_Morgana_%28mirage%29), just to name a few. It also starts to get difficult to breathe past 50 below! Brrrrr!"
