Gallery: An Orchestra of Tiny, Humming Robots That You Conduct With Gestures

*Nayral-Ro* is the latest from Russian media artist Dmitry Morozov. It's an orchestra of pint-sized robots, and anyone can play the conductor.

Morozov attached speakers to 12 robotic arms, put the gadgets on podiums, and wired them to a Leap Motion Controller.

When a visitor (at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, where the exhibit is on display) steps up to the Leap, they need only wave their hands in the air to trigger the little singers.

Morozov used Pure Data language to program the Leap to turn hand gestures of varying heights into varying humming, electronic sounds.

It's less about the music—*Nayral-Ro* is no New York Philharmonic—and more about getting interesting acoustic results by playing with the direction of sound.

Perhaps in the hands of musicians—electronic or otherwise—perhaps this could yield more symphonic sounds down the road.
