British design firm PriestmanGoode has created two new seating options for railway cars. Both intend to create more room for more seats, to help alleviate overcrowding on commuter trains.

This design, called Horizon, has benches that sit slightly higher than a typical train car seat, creating less need for leg room and more space underneath for luggage.

PriestmanGoode says these seats could increase commuter car capacity by 20 to 30 percent.

Island Bay offers a mix of seating options. The seats fold up and down, and while up, they function as perch seats.

Same goes for the additional end bay seating, which looks like a legless folding chair glued to the aisle-facing portions of the seats.

Island Bay also offers a traditional, full sit-down option, making its projected capacity increase slightly smaller than Horizon, at 15 to 20 percent.
