Gallery: How Dodge Packed 707 HP Into the Hellcat Without Destroying It
Chrysler012015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
In an age where engines are getting smaller and MPG figures are going up, Dodge pushed back with the Challenger Hellcat. The muscle car is an exercise in batshit crazy engineering, all to keep this burnout-mobile running, even with 707 ponies under the hood.

2015 Dodge Hellcat Remember that scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High where a young Forest Whitaker pulls up to the school yard in his Z-28 Camaro? There’s always the kid who gets the ridiculous car he or she wants, and if you’re a show-off in a varsity jacket, there’s nothing more conspicuous and overpowered than the Dodge Hellcat. It’s an astounding feat of engineering that Dodge managed to cram a 707 hp engine into a Challenger, but if that’s too much power for weekday driving, it has a two-key system — a red one for all-out power, and a black one that limits it to 500 hp. There’s also a valet mode that starts it in second gear for (slightly) tamer driving. MSRP $60,000

The black key "limits" the car to only 500 horsepower, while the red key lets you give it the full beans. Why would anyone want the black key, again?
