Gallery: Twitter's Opulent New Offices: Exclusive Micro-Tour and Photos

Wired received an exclusive (albeit quick) tour of Twitter's new offices in the Mid-Market Street sub-neighborhood of San Francisco on Wednesday. The cavernous space was formerly a wholesale furniture mart. It stood vacant for about five years until mid-June when Twitter moved in – and now it's a buzzing hive where Twitter codes the future. The city hopes the presence of Twitter and other forward-thinking companies will breathe life back into a blighted and barren section of San Francisco's main thoroughfare. More businesses are moving into the lower floors. (Twitter will have three floors of its own.) And several other businesses are locating to the area, [thanks largely to a series of tax breaks](http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Tax-break-draws-firms-to-Mid-Market-3622860.php). Wired was visiting for lunch, and we took the opportunity to snap a few photos – but we weren't allowed to photograph employees, visitors, or any human beings at all. Given that Twitter is a bustling environment, that, well, limited things. Still, if you want a quick peek at the new "twoffice," here it is. Above we see comfortable foam seats meant for informal meetings and gatherings. At one point, there were several people sprawled out with laptops on them – until they had to be shooed away for this photograph. In the background, you can see two concrete green deer. They were found and painted by Ev Williams' wife, Sara Morishige Williams, and once decorated the lobby of Twitter's previous office.

Rooftop Deck and Garden ----------------------- The most striking feature of the office is the 9th-floor rooftop deck and garden that looks over San Francisco.

Apocalypse-Ready ---------------- Drought-friendly succulents decorate the garden. They're also low to the ground and hearty – which is good news on the wind-swept roof.

Fun and Games ------------- In addition to seating areas, an open lawn on the rooftop hosts a cornhole setup. (Yes, that's [a real game](http://www.playcornhole.org/rules.shtml).)

The Kitchen ----------- Lavish kitchens and scrumptious dining set-ups are basically requirements for technology companies at this point. Twitter is no exception. The three dining stations – @birdfeed, #comfort and #tenderloin – serve ripping food, including a plate of perpetual bacon and a fridge with free craft beer.

Working Space Not Place ----------------------- On the main floor, most of the desks are set up in a broad, open bullpen style. But if employees need a little more private space, and don't want to grab a conference room, lots of little booths abound along the walls.

Booth Detail ------------ Like everything else in the offices, booths are luxurious, well thought out, and gorgeous. We were puzzled, however, by that large piece of equipment next to this particular booth. We suspect it's something called a "printer." But that's such a last-century tool, we're sure it's not.
