    Matt Smith brings a potent supply of irreverent humor and eccentric intellect to his portrayal of the Doctor in the latest incarnation of *Doctor Who*, sci-fi's longest-running television show. His new interstellar companion, Amy Pond (heartily played by [Karen Gillan](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Gillan)), does the same. But both can bring the drama too, as the crying, claustrophobic Gillan proves in this exclusive behind-the-scenes video that recounts the making of an episode titled "The Hungry Earth."
