The Lamborghini Huracàn Spyder will run from 0 to 62 mph in a blistering 3.4 seconds, thanks to a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10. Fuel economy regulations mean Lambo has to care about carbon emissions, even if its customers don't give a hectare of their estate about gas prices. So the Spyder's got a start stop system to reduce idling and deactivates one cylinder bank when cruising instead of accelerating.

The fourth generation of Toyota’s iconic hybrid has sharp angles everywhere, and lights apparently thrown on like ninja stars. It’s funky for sure, an effort to stand out again, to reinvigorate sales of a model that has seen its popularity slip in a market that doesn’t place as great a premium on fuel economy as it once did. And it gets 55 mpg.

The Bentley Bentayga is the world's first ultra-luxe SUV. The 5,240-pound leviathan, the fastest SUV out there, hits 60 mph in a wowza-quick four seconds flat. That’s one-tenth slower than the Porsche Carrera S. Top speed is an eyeball-compressing 187 mph, which puts it ahead of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. Inside, the Bentayga’s as sumptuous as anything bearing a Bentley badge should be.

Porsche's Mission E all-electric concept combines stunning lines with superlative range and performance in a package that should make Elon Musk very nervous. Porsche says the car has a range of 310 miles and will blitz from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.5 seconds. Now it just has to build the thing.

The Frankfurt show isn't all about supercars, it's also where European automakers break out some of their funkier concepts. Like Citroën's Cactus M, a topless four-seater. The car's all about life outdoors, with an integrated tent and drainage outlets so you can wash it with a hose when it gets dirty.

The F-Pace is proof nearly every car maker is eager to cash in on the global craze for SUVs and crossovers. Despite having a sister brand that only does SUVs (Land Rover), Jaguar is making one of its own, which it calls the "ultimate practical sportscar." It's got room for five, a supercharged V6 engine, and aluminum architecture to keep weight low.

The newly introduced Dawn is the Rolls-Royce of convertibles. The 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine produces 563 horsepower, enough to propel 5,600 pounds of opulence to 62 mph in a spritely 4.9 seconds. Rolls put extra work into making the car silent as King Tut's tomb when the roof is up, and to expand room in the back for the fanciest of passengers.

The 488 Spider is Ferrari's most aerodynamic convertible ever, and packs a turbocharged 3.9-liter, 661-horsepower V8 engine. It'll hit 203 mph and run from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat. The retractable hard top is 55 pounds lighter than a comparable fabric soft top, and opens or closes in just 14 seconds.

If you thought the Nissan Rogue and Juke were ... creative, get ready for the Gripz, a four-seat crossover concept that looks like a Transformer gave up halfway into a metamorphosis from car to robot/alien. Don't expect Gripz to see production, but Nissan says it's a "design statement" that points to it's "emotional geometry" design. Is confused an emotion?

The newest 911 Carrera is actually four cars: the base model, the powered up Carrera S, and the convertible version of each. Porsche offers four-wheel steering to improve stability at the high speeds the turbocharged engine encourages. The three-liter, six-cylinder unit provides 370 hp in the Carrera and 420 in the S. The cheapest of the four starts for $89,400, and the top of the line S Cabriolet goes for $115,700.

Now that the run of the Veyron is done, Bugatti's preparing an encore, to be called the Chiron. This is not the Chiron, it's the Vision Gran Turismo, a concept Bugatti made for the video racing game *Gran Turismo*, and built in real life for Frankfurt. What really matters is that it's a preview of the design language we'll see when the next real Bugatti comes out.

The way a car cuts through the air is crucial to its fuel economy and performance, but automakers are nearing the limits of aerodynamics without giving up practicality. To find room for improvement, Mercedes created the Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile. At 50 mph, when wind resistance really becomes an issue, it changes shape. The rear extends, flaps in the front bumper stretch out, and the rims flatten out, giving the car an extremely low 0.19 coefficient of drag.

This pure electric SUV is technically a concept---that's why is doesn't have those pesky, non-aerodynamic sideview mirrors---but Audi says it's a "foretaste of the production version" that's coming sometime soon. The Germans promise an impressive 301-mile range when the 95-kWh battery's fully charged, and a super sleek .25 coefficient of drag.
Newspress UK141071543-Vision G Coupe Concept (4)
The Vision G Concept Coupe is all about simplicity, Hyundai says, and it's powered by a 5-liter V8 that produces 420 horses. It's meant to be "inspiration for its family of future premium products," and has a door that opens itself, which is somehow "a nod to the self-sufficiency of the driver."
