The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon arrived at the New York Show doing a burnout. It’s powered by an 840-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine, so powerful, the car can do wheelies.

Not to be left behind in the ridic stakes, Jeep used a dynamometer to introduce the 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Apparently the most powerful and quickest SUV ever, it can do 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds, and reach a top speed of 180 mph.

America doesn't have a monopoly on muscle: Mercedes is flexing too. It showed the AMG CLG 63, with a twin turbo 4.0 liter V8. As well as a regular SUV, it comes as a coupe and an "S-Coupe," with even more go-faster bits.

Toyota knows you won't really take its FT-4X Concept crossover off-roading. Instead, it suggests 'casualcore' outings, whatever that means.

VW's Atlas is the largest vehicle the automaker sells in the US. Based on the CrossBlue concept shown in 2013, it's blocky and muscular. VW says it's streamlined though, with a coefficient of drag of just 0.34.

Cadillac finally took the wraps of its hotly anticipated Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. Arriving this summer in the CT6 sedan, it uses a camera on the steering wheel to keep an eye on the driver—no reading the newspaper on the freeway in this car.

Not to be left out, electric car startup Lucid Motors picked New York for its global auto show debut. The Tesla wannabe showed crowds its "speed car test" which it used to test stability at speeds up to an impressive 217mph.
