This is all with a simple toolkit of a 5 gallon bucket, plastic placemat for leveling and a little plastic tool for shaping the sharp edges.

Seibert typically takes the train to Jones Beach and walks 40 minutes down the coast to get away from crowds. He says barring any bad weather, his castles can be there for a few days.

Seibert shapes everything by hand, roughly packing each piece of a structure and then refining and leveling it with his simple tools.

The texture of the sand is key to getting a strong structure and smooth finish. The ideal dampness is similar to the sand you'd find if you dug about 6 inches into the beach's sand.
