Dead Media Beat: why Gawker is moving beyond the blog

*Gawker explains why they are a modern media company with aspirations, as opposed to some gutter weblog that annotates weird stuff found on the web and makes snarky comments about it in chronological order.

*I don't wanna tell Gawker their business, especially when they're so eager to explain it in such cogent detail... but why would this nameless video-drenched thing "beyond a blog" be any more stable than a blog? How long does Gawker think Gawker is gonna be "beyond?"

*And also, shouldn't somebody NAME THE PLATFORM something that isn't "blog," so that Jorn Barger doesn't have to show up here explaining that he didn't invent Gawker?

*Please don't call it "the postblog blog." Believe me, that won't help.
