LOS ANGELES -- We'd like some of what Honda's designers were smoking when they came up with the P-NUT.
We swear we heard them giggling before rolling it out at the Los Angeles Auto Show. They said something about it being "a futuristic concept for an ultra-compact and sophisticated city coupe." They said it's called Personal-Neo Urban Transit.
They didn't say why "personal-neo" is hyphenated.
Honda says the styling "leverages crisp angles with dynamic flowing lines" and the end result "is a sleek and aggressive exterior." It looks like something you might see in Total Recall. Styling aside, P-NUT is a great idea for a city car -- small, roomy and efficient. Honda claims the microcar offers as much interior room as a mid-sized sedan. The two passengers sit behind the driver.
P-NUT is just a styling exercise. There's nothing under the body but a steel tube frame, we're pretty sure the brakes are fake and the doors don't open. Still, Honda says it could come with a small gasoline engine, an electric electric motor or a hybrid drivetrain.
We like it. If nothing else, it's more practical than the wild FC Sport hydrogen concept Honda brought last year.
