The 10-foot, 24-pound Citibot is comfortable and easy to paddle straight — something short boats often have to struggle with. And while most kayaks will dump you if you lean over to take a picture or look through binoculars, the sponsons (long, inflatable tubes) on either side of the Citibot help keep the craft upright. At just 24 pounds, you can easily carry the boat and a case of beer down to the dock. And at less than a grand, this may be the cheapest folding kayak on the market.

The plastic clips that hold the aluminum frame in place are too big. Weak, scratchy Velcro straps are a poor choice for structural elements. The kayak isn't designed to take big waves, but it should be waterproof; it's not — exposed topside zipper compromises this objective.
