PaceMaker Portable DJ Module Apparently Not All That

Pacemaker One of the more intriguing new devices to hit the show floor at CES in January was the Pacemaker Handheld DJ Module, which has garnered a fair amount of anticipation from digital DJs over the past few months. When I saw Jonas Norberg, the inventor of the device, put it through its paces in Las Vegas (video), I was pretty impressed by the way he appeared to be adding and manipulating beats and samples with ease.

But as Nancy Miller discovered in her Gadget Lab review of the Pacemaker, the device is a bit too fussy to use in bar lighting after a few drinks. Until you’ve used it for a while, you’re probably better of sticking to turntables for spinning live. However, if you’d rather play around with music than videogames on the bus, subway or wherever, the Pacemaker could be a great way to while away the minutes while honing your skills on the device to a Norberg-type level.

As for an MP3 player with an artificially intelligent DJ inside of it, we’re still waiting.
