This terrifying device is the Blood Pen, and it doesn’t work very well. In the video below (included after the break because it’s so icky), you can see artist Bob Partington use a syringe to draw blood and then attempt to write with it.
The trouble is, the mechanism which squeezes the syringe is a little jerky and results in gobbets of claret squirting disturbingly onto the page (I warned you it was icky). For those of you who might want to see it in the flesh, the Blood Pen will be on show amongst the ironic mullets at Barcelona’s fashion conference Bread and Butter, later this week.
