Sony's newfangled 80GB PlayStation 3 should be hitting stores about now — with a free game, MotorStorm — but think twice before getting the credit card out. Instead of forking out $600 for a console that has precious few decent games out for it, why not fork out $450 for a console that has precious few decent games out for it? That's how much GameStop is flogging the old 20GB model for, after all. Fellow Wired writer Chris Kohler makes this absolutely clear for you, and he's talking about the 60GB model...

"Game|Life's official position is that anyone who wants a PlayStation 3 should buy the $500 model before it is taken off shelves. An extra 20 gigabytes of hard drive space and a copy of Motorstorm isn't worth $100, especially when you consider that the backward compatibility hardware has been removed."

$100 is a grim deal for 60GB of hard drive space, especially when the hardware has been quietly gimped.
