It looks like Sony has an ally in the fight to win the DVD format wars: Blockbuster. Only 250 locations of the movie rental chain will stock HD-DVD movies, while Blu-ray will be going to all 1700 stores. The decision comes after the company did a trial of both formats and found that Blu-ray rentals were significantly higher than HD-DVD rentals.
Blockbuster's online rental service will continue to offer both formats, and will consider adding HD-DVD to more stores if customer demand is high enough.
