PricewaterhouseCoopers has released its outlook on the business of gaming for the next five years, Global Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2007-2011, and things look pretty darn rosy. Global game spending is expected to surpass music spending this year; over the five year period, the game market will enjoy a 9.1% compound annual growth rate, as opposed to the overall entertainment industry's 6.4% projected increase.

In the U.S., PwC expects the biggest gains to be in the online and wireless markets, both of which it expects to at least double in size: online from $1.1 billion to $2.7, and wireless from $499 million to $1 billion. Console sales will stay strong, declining as the machines age, but PwC predicts a downslide for PCs, estimating a drop from $969 million to $840 million by 2011.
