Microsoft revealed a researched project aimed at turning phones into mini-PCs. Research chief Craig Mundie discussed the "Fone+" project at the WinHEC conference, describing phones as a natural platform to extend mobile computing.
Mundie speculated on phones as a TV adjunct/replacement and ran through a demo where a tricked-out phone was the centerpiece of a medical diagnosis system. The key is to take advantage of all the latent computing power around the phone, he said, describing the "manycore" environment of the future.
