
In a rare moment of upfront honesty, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer explained Vista's sales figures by saying that pre-release sales predictions had perhaps been overly aggressive; Bill Gates swiftly moved in to "clarify" those sentiments.
Um...ok. Gates went on to say that Vista has been very well-received, and that reliability feedback on the operating system has actually been better than expected. Optimism about Vista's impending release drove Microsoft shares up 30%, but the stock has slipped a bit since the release. Does that mean that Vista is a lousy OS? No, of course not, but that information, combined with Ballmer's comments, might give Microsoft investors pause.
