Photography geeks are buzzing with reports of the D40,
a new low-end Nikon digital SLR camera. Images of the camera apparently were posted accidentally by a German electronics retailer, and bloggers have been quick to fill in with
(wholly unconfirmed) technical details.
To whit: the D40 is expected to sell for $500 (body only), have 6-megapixel resolution, ISO up to 3,200 and speed up to ¼,000 of a second. It’ll use SD cards, weigh a little more than a pound, shoot 2.5 frames per second and won’t work with older manual-focus lenses.
