Alice Patten is remarkably good in this movie. Miss Patten must be the best British actress ever to have a major part iin a Bollywood flick. Alice really carries off her role as a college-age anti-imperial pro-revolutionary Rachel Corrie think-alike with a shouldercam. You actually believe in her: sleeveless tops, cargo pants, touchingly incapable Bollywood dancing, pretty much all of it.

For an American equivalent to RANG DE BASANTI, you've got to imagine a top-end George Clooney flick where a bunch of disaffected, hard-drinking American college students start a class film-project, then assassinate Don Rumsfeld, take over a Fox News station, and end up mown down by Delta Force commandos.

Furthermore, you have to imagine that movie as a monster pop hit.
Which it was.
