This handsome structure is a "sebilj" or Ottoman-style
public fountain. A sebilj an ideal place
to slurp up water on a summer day, maybe
sit and have a smoke and a jawboning
session with the neighbors.
This fountain was a gift from the city of Sarajevo
to its sister city of Belgrade, back in 1989.
There's an identical model back in Sarajevo.
Belgrade and Sarajevo were sisters in those days.
