Rap Pioneer Slain

Jam Master Jay, a founding member of the pioneering rap trio Run DMC, was killed Wednesday evening in his New York recording studio. The 37-year-old disc jockey, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was shot in the head shortly after letting two men into his studio, police said. Run DMC is widely credited with bringing hip-hop into the mainstream with hits like "My Adidas" and "It's Tricky" and its collaboration with Aerosmith on the '80s standard "Walk This Way."
