Subject: Charities Say No to Obsolete Crap
Sigh. I just wasn't in the mood for this article this morning.
(Charities Say No to Obsolete Crap, Jan. 8, 2002).
Because people are stupid sheep, nobody at Goodwill or a charitydistribution center would ever dream in their puny little sheep brains to spend $8.95 at Cheapbytes for a Linux distribution and, what, $20 for a StarOffice CD?
I don't think I have ever downloaded a .doc or .xcl file I couldn't open. PowerPoint slide shows go both ways: Great or don't open. Internet? It's all there.
"But it would look different! Waaaahhhhhh!"
Well, duh! For something that would sell for maybe $100 to $200, what do you expect? WebTV, for chrissake, would look, gasp, slightly different!
Sigh. Carl Sagan was right to be concerned. We are a good candidate for extinction.
