L.A.-Bound Jet Crashes

A Singapore Airlines 747 bound from Taipei to Los Angeles with 179 people on board crashed Tuesday night as it attempted to take off during a storm, Taiwanese officials said. Flight SQ006 crashed at 11:18 p.m. local time, hitting two other empty planes as high winds forced it down on a runway at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport. Officials say at least 30 people are injured, and reports are conflicting about fatalities. A Singapore Airlines spokesman said there were no known fatalities, but some Taiwanese media are reporting anywhere from one to four dead.
