Coached the New York Jets to what was perhaps the most pivotal victory in NFL history. The Joe Namath-led Jets, representing the upstart American Football League, upset the mighty Baltimore Colts, 16-7, in Super Bowl III, legitimizing the AFL and hastening the merger between the two leagues. Earlier, Ewbank won two NFL titles as coach of those same Colts.
