Claire Danes is persona non grata in Manila, Philippines, after the City Council voted 23-3 Tuesday to ban her films. The council reacted to two interviews Danes recently gave where she described the capital city as "ghastly and weird" and said it "smelled of cockroaches, with rats all over and that there is no sewerage system and the people do not have anything -- no arms, no legs, no eyes." Danes, who spent several weeks in Manila filming, has since apologized, but one council member said, "We cannot accept irresponsible sweeping statements from irresponsible actresses."
