El Niño to La Niña

A cold-weather phenomenon known as La Niña may follow the heavy rains and floods of El Niño, according to the UN's World Meteorological Organization. The ferocity of El Niño is expected to weaken after May, but the WMO says La Niña, which would bring abnormal cold to the eastern equatorial Pacific, is expected to hit sometime from July to September. Asian countries in the Western Pacific - subject to unusually dry conditions during El Niño - could face heavy rains under La Niña.
