In late-morning activity the Dow was up 41 points, to 7594; the Nasdaq was up 3, to 1594. In Tokyo, the Nikkei gained 1.1 percent, while in afternoon trading Frankfurt's DAX was down 0.6 percent and London's FTSE 100 0.6 percent.
