Dow, Nasdaq Climb

In a belated message to Wall Street, a place that's all too familiar with Asia's capricious economic situation, Greenspan told the US House Banking Committee that Asia's recent economic downturn could dampen the American export business. But the news had little impact on markets. Recovering from a Wednesday drop fueled by heavy selling in Tokyo and Hong Kong, stocks climbed in morning trading. The Dow was up 46.66 at 7447.98; the Nasdaq 12.98 at 1554.70. Among the morning's most active stocks were 3Com, Intel, WorldCom, and MCI.
