Two new studies, both from England, appear to answer any doubts that passive smoking is very dangerous. The studies showed that living with a smoker increases a nonsmokers risk of heart disease by about 30 percent. "This is surprisingly large - almost half the risk of smoking 20 cigarettes per day even though the exposure is only 1 percent of that of a smoker," said researcher Malcolm Law.
