McDonald's says it will spend US$500 million to double its presence in Brazil over the next four years. The burger chain, facing stepped-up competition in the United States from Burger King, already picks up 60 percent of its operating income overseas. It now has 270 restaurants in Brazil, where a concession to local tastes adds a banana pie to the usual menu.
